Greetings from Guangzhou!

Day 1

I've landed safely in Guangzhou Baiyun International Airport at about 12pm. That means we're ahead of schedule by 5 minutes! Kudos to SIA, lol. This morning at about 4.45am, went to Pioneer Mall Macdonalds with KC and CK to have my "last" breakfast. After breakfast, we got other stuff settled and went to the airport.

It's just impossible to describe my mood at the airport this morning. I was anxious, I was excited, I was scared. My first time travelling alone to such a faraway land, of course, I'll be scared? Well, what's the best thing? While lining in to get my boarding pass for check-in, I heard a familiar voice and I turned back, it was Mr Ng, my ITL lecturer! He's on the same plane as me, omg. He's going to Wuhan to teach..

Went to T1 to meet Fran they all as they are going to Wuhan for the immersion programme. Back to T3, it's time to say goodbye. With a heavy heart, I said goodbye to KC and CK and dragged my heavy footsteps into the departure hall. Now, I'm even more scared. I'm totally alone. Went to my gate - A9. Nice new gate! My aircraft's a Boeing 777-200, registration 9V-SVM. It's huge! I was sat at 31A, a nice view of the left engine. The engine is incredibly HUGE! Almost like the size of a capsule from the Singapore Flyer, or even bigger. No wonder, the Boeing 777 is the largest twin engine jet.

Finally, we got pushed back and taxiied to runway 02L for takeoff. Smooth takeoff. A feeling of sadness that I'm gonna leave my homeland for 9 days.. =( The flight went on smoothly. Sat beside me was a lady and an "angmoh" man. The lady seems very fierce to me.. O.o Ah well, but never mind. I had the omelette meal as my breakfast. Was fooling around with KrisWorld also. Haha, not much movies to watch. Managed to get a set of playing cards and bought 4 plane models. Will go into details next time.

When we were about 180 nautical miles away from Guangzhou (estimated location is near Macau), the captain began the descent. Weather in Guangzhou today is cloudy and temperature is about 14 deg c. During the descent, I saw 2 planes in our airspace, first time ever! I couldn't really recognise the first one, but I guess it's an A320. The second one was an Air China A330.

Landed successfully on runway 02R in Baiyun International and was brought to my relative's house. Despite the low temperature, I don't feel cold. I'm wearing my usual, shorts and t shirt here while they wrapped themselves up like dumplings? O.o Haha, something's wrong with me. Had a great lunch just now. Prawns, fish, beef balls, chicken, veggies.. Their prawns has eggs in them! Darn nice! Fish is specially brought over from teochew.. Beef balls, simply tasty! Chicken soup made from cordyceps, which is darn expensive now. Veggies ended up in dustbin, lol.

After lunch, rested and walked around the neighbourhood. Went to a tour agency to ask about a one-day tour package for Thursday. Bought this roasted goose, supposedly a Guangzhou delicacy but I find that it tastes almost the same as a duck. Went back home for dinner. Was being "spammed" by food again. Argh, my weight... Lol.

After dinner, went to 珠江 for a river tour. Took some nice photos. Enjoy!

Daniel Powter - Next Plane Home -

This song greatly represents my mood today, as I miss home badly.
